About Nicola Baretta

Nicola Baretta is a Cape Town-born artist and actor now braving the British weather in Sussex, England. Thanks to her Italian roots (and a very handy Italian passport), she has the luxury of hopping between England and all the sun-soaked places that inspire her work.

She’s been drawing and performing since she could hold a pen but only turned her art into a proper business during lockdown. Her first collection was an ode to South Africa, using its rich flora and fauna to create striking prints. Her process starts old-school with pen and paper, then brings it to life digitally in Adobe Illustrator. The same method led to her Mediterranean and English summer collections, inspired by idyllic trips to Italy and Devon.

In 2021, her brother adopted a beautiful daughter in South Africa, sparking her Alphabet Print collection - because what’s a cool aunt to do if not make art inspired by her niece’s name? Naturally, all of this is available on her website.

Then, in 2024, she rediscovered painting after a long hiatus. Her first series is inspired by the simple joys of drinks and snacks, because what better muse than an aperitivo? This evolved into full-on food fiestas on 60 x 90 cm canvases (because bigger is better when it comes to art and appetite).
